Gin

Gin continues to be the drink preferred by distinguished businessmen and statesmen as well as soldiers and middle class. It features a vibrant and remarkable past, which equals that of virtually any spirits. And now it is featured in all entertainment magazines and publications and has become a favorite alcohol by bartenders and mixologists everywhere. Gin was incredibly popular in England in the 1700s. In early 1700s, approximately 25% of families in London either made or sold Gin. During the Prohibition era, it became popular again because it was very easy to make.

Although the roots of the clear alcohol are relatively unknown, it is likely that hundreds of years ago, someone in Belgium or Holland, started to mix alcohol with juniper berries and other types of fruits, flowers and vegetables. Gin is still produced this way and every brand features it’s own unique recipe and methods for infusion.

Most of the available gin today are “London dry” style. There are also number of other types of gin, such as old Tom & Plymouth along with genever that has just been reintroduced to the US marketplace.
