Hot Toddy

Warm and comfy and perfect for cold weather, the Hot Toddy is a hot classic cocktail that is quite simple to mix.  The primary recipe uses any kind of whiskey like bourbon or scotch and some bartenders use tea bag but you can skip it and only use hot water.

There are several ways to make Hot Toddy. I’ve seen a recipe using honey and one without it so it’s personal choice and you can make different toddies.  Here are couple of ways to make Hot Toddy.

The first recipe is by top bartender Jacques Bezuidenhout.

  • 2 ounce of whiskey of your choice
  • boiling water
  • lemon twist
  • four to six cloves
  • 2 teaspoon of brown sugar
  • 1/4 ounce of lemon juice

How to make Hot Toddy cocktail:

Pour boiling water into the mug or cup and let it stand for couple of minutes to warm up.  At the same time, put the cloves into lemon twist.  Empty the water in the mug and fill it up midway with hot water.  Pour the sugar in the mug and stir. Add the lemon twist with cloves in the mug and stir well.  Pour the lemon juice with the whiskey.  Stir and it’s ready to serve.

In this Hot Toddy recipe, we use honey and tea bag and it’s little bit easier to make this.  You can use your favorite black or green tea bag.

  • 2 ounce of whiskey
  •  0.25 ounce of lemon juice
  • boiling water
  • one table spoon of honey
  • 1 tea bag

How to make Hot Toddy with honey and tea bag:

Boil the water in a kettle and put the tea bag in it.  Pour the honey in the mug to coat the bottom of it.  Pour the whiskey and lemon juice.  Then add the tea into the mug and stir it well.
