The actual name of Ketel One is a derivative of ‘Distilleerketel Number 1,’ which is a Dutch word that means ‘pot still.’ It is easily one of the only vodkas in the world that was named after an element of it’s production process.

The actual illustration that is drawn on the front of the bottle itself is the original copper pot that the vodka was actually named after.

The process of making the spirit begins with a very careful selection of the best European wheat. This careful selection ensures that the vodka is smooth, pure, and has an excellent balanced taste. The whet’s high starch content makes it an ideal solution for creating the perfect Ketel One Vodka. After the wheat is harvested, it is blended and ground with water in order to form a type of mash. Once this is completed, it is then left to ferment. After the fermentation process has been completed, the actual mash ends up going through the column distillation process which helps produce a very fresh and crisp wheat spirit.

Then, parts of the ultra wheat spirit are again distilled in small batches inside of copper pot stills which includes the original fired with coal Pot Still Number 1. During the actual distillation process, the heads that are too harsh and the tails that are too mild are thrown away. The only part that is kept and utilized is the heart of each distillate.

Once the heads and tails of the pot are discarded, the remaining hearts are then filtered individually and combined in order to create a master pot still blend.

The master distiller of the process works carefully to oversee the production and marrying of the portion of the master pot still blend. The final product is called, ‘ Ketel One Vodka.’ Many consider it to be the perfect marriage of old world pot which is still crafted utilizing modern distilling techniques. Each of the final production runs are approved by different members of the Nolet family.
