The single malt Scotch whiskey from Laphroaig enjoys global popularity around the the world. For people who appreciate Islay whiskies that deliver a bold and smoky taste with a touch of brine, they will love this 10-year-old single malt from Laphroaig. This is the brand’s flagship and the best selling Islay single malt in the world.

Background:

Originally, the company’s distillery was established to utilize surplus barley that was grown for cattle feed. It was soon discovered that more money could be made from distilling whiskey instead of farming.

In 2008, the Laphroaig distillery was chosen as the venue for Prince Charles’ 60th birthday celebration.

Nose

The aroma of the Laphroaig 10-year whiskey resembles a smokiness that one would sense from the air after a campfire is put out by the beach. There is a clear saltiness to the quality, much like a touch of seaweed mixed with a bit of vanilla.

Body and Palate

The Laphroaig 10 is a bold, full-bodied, single malt whiskey that has a slightly oily texture in the mouth. Smokey flavors dominate the palate, with a peatiness and tones that resemble a campfire with just a touch of creosote. A brininess lingers on the palate. It is clear that this whiskey was distilled in a maritime environment. The big, smokey and salty flavors are balanced by a little bit of caramel and vanilla.

Finish

On the finish, the Laphroaig 10-year-old lingers with a smokey and salty taste with a hint of caramel to balance. For all those whiskey lovers out there who love a big flavor, they will not be disappointed with the Laphroagig 10.

The bold flavors of the Laphroaig 10 single malt are the perfect accompaniment to a cigar. I enjoy the Laphroaig 10 as a scotch after dinner and as a nightcap during those cold, rainy nights when I want to sit by a cozy fire and read a good book.
