Cabernet Sauvignon

Often considered the best red wine grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon was initially from Bordeaux with significant presence in California’s wine market and it’s considered the most popular red wine in the world. These grapes have a tendency to grow in warmer climates and are usually great wines for aging for about five to ten years to reach ideal maturation. Cabernet’s flavors are mellow because of longer maturation and they’re perfect for mixing with other grapes, mainly Merlot. This blending doesn’t change the natural identity and character of Cabs but adds pleasing fruit tones by softening the grapes.

Cabernet Sauvignon wines vary from full to medium-bodied and are viewed for their high tannin content and rich fruit characteristics. The flavor consists of cherry, blackberry, blueberry, plum, vanilla, spice, tobacco and from time to time, leather aromas

Groth Cabernet Sauvignon

Groth Vineyards was founded in Napa Valley in 1982 with the goal of making great cabernet sauvignon. It didn’t take long before the winery achieved that goal and became very popular:  Groth’s 1985 Reserve Cabernet was the first California wine to get 100 points from Robert Parker, an influential wine critic.  The popularity of their reserve cab was so high that for next several years, people lined up to buy their new vintage.

Here are a list of eight Cabernet Sauvignons that are always worth paying extra for. These wines are consistent in their high quality, spending the extra money on new oak for their barrels, premium grapes that are either grown themselves or from specially selected growers, and an experienced winemaker that knows exactly what goes into making a quality Cabernet.
